JD(U) MLA wants Jitan Majhi, not Nitish Kumar, to be CM candidate for Bihar polls
Patna: In a sign of increasing turbulence in Bihar politics, rebel Janata Dal (United) leader Gyanendra Singh 'Gyanu' has said that Jitan Kumar Manjhi should be party's chief ministerial candidate and not Nitish Kumar, reports said on Wednesday. Last week, Singh and many other JD(U) leaders had slammed Nitish for joining hands with RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav.
What may trouble Nitish Kumar further are reports that some rebel JD(U) MLAs are in constant touch with LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan. On Monday, Paswan had said that Bihar could witness Assembly polls by the end of the year. Lalu and Nitish have been warming upto each other ever since their parties showcased a poor performance in the recently held General Elections.
Nitish had also called on Lalu last week seeking his support for JD-U candidates contesting in the Rajya Sabha polls. The ruling JDU) won the two seats. Upbeat a day after his party won both the seats in the Rajya Sabha by-election, despite cross-voting by its rebel legislators fully backed by BJP, Nitish said he will unite all like-minded secular parties and hinted at a realignment of forces with rival the RJD.
"We will try that all secular forces should come together to take on BJP in Bihar and in the country. There is a need of a larger unity against BJP," the former chief minister said at a press conference.
