Ex-MP P Kannan launches political party in Puducherry
PUDUCHERRY: Former Rajya Sabha MP P Kannan has announced the launch of his new political party in the Union territory of Puducherry. Addressing the press conference on Wednesday, Kannan said that he will announce the name of the party after completing all the formalities of the Election Commission of India till next week.
Kannan said that his party can contest the Lok Sabha elections next year or may support the 'good candidate' played by other parties. He said that after the other political parties (National and Regional) after seeing the eyes of the victims of public and union and state governments, a new political organization decided to swim, became insensitive towards people's issues.
"Presently, there is no political voice against the Union or state governments. We have decided to come out and perform for the people. We will stay with the people and raise people's issue," he said amidst thundering applause from his supporters.
Kannan said that the central government has failed to stop the rising fuel prices, which led to the hike in prices of essential commodities. The Puducherry government, which not only failed to take any initiatives to remove the rising fuel prices but also burdened the people by hiking the electricity tariff and other taxes on various goods and services.
He said that corruption had ruled the roof in Puducherry. "The economic status of the territory has plummeted to an all-time low. A clear majority of the large and medium scale industries left Puducherry. Now traders, business and commercial establishments have started downing their shutters. The government has launched attempts to close public sector enterprises. The government has not released salary of employees of several public-sector undertakings," he said.
