About the Constituency:
Garhwal Parliamentary Constituency is one of the five Lok Sabha constituencies of the state of Uttarakhand. The Garhwal Parliamentary constituency (constituency number 2) has a total of 1,092,282 electorates out of which 552,630 are females and 518,381 are males according to Election Commission of India 2009 reports. It has fourteen Vidhan Sabha segments and was formed prior to the 1951 elections. The constituency spreads over five districts of the state, mainly the Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pauri Garhwal districts.

About Garhwal:
The state of Uttarakhand has a total population of 10,117,000 and a sex ratio of 963 females per 1000 males. It has thirteen districts with almost 70% of the population residing in rural areas.
The Chamoli District has a population of over 390,000 residing on an area of 7520 sq km. The Rudrayaprayag District covers an area of 2,440 sq km and is the least populous district of the state with just about 237,000 people residing here. The Pauri Garhwal District has a total area of 5,400 sq km and houses over 680,000 people.
