Center suggests to alter text book content to check crime rate: Rajnath
In order to check crime rate, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said one of the proposals is to modify the contents of text books to inject human values into children. "There is also a need to create awareness and to bring perceptional change among people so as to enhance commitment towards life values and check vulgarity," he said.
"One of the proposal is to change the content of text books so that children can be informed about human values and life values," Singh said while replying to supplementary questions in Rajya Sabha. He was responding to questions on steps being taken by government to check increasing crime rate.
To a specific query regarding vulgarity in media and public places, the Home Ministry said the "media is fourth pillar of democracy. There are provisions for self regulation and the concerned department issues advisory from time to time".
Singh also said government is fully committed to security and safety of women. Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said the Centre takes cognizance of various incidents of rape, theft, murder etc and depending upon the gravity of the crime, seeks reports from concerned state governments and directs quick remedial action.
Instead of dollars, India need thoughts, information: Modi to World Bank
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday told World Bank President Jim Yong Kim that India requires ideas, knowledge and expertise "rather than dollars" as there is a need to focus on developing a base of skilled people keeping the future in mind.
During a meeting, Modi also suggested to Kim that the cleaning of the Ganga would be a very inspiring project for the World Bank.
"My meeting with World Bank President Mr. Jim Yong Kim was very fruitful. We discussed several ways of working together in the times to come," Modi said.
In a series of tweets, he said the two talked about the importance of scale and the need to work on a scale that inspires people and positively transforms their lives.
"Rather than dollars, we are more interested in knowledge & expertise of World Bank. Dr. Kim agreed & said WB can be our information bank," the Prime Minister said.
"We want ideas from the World Bank not only on mass production but also on production by masses, which will benefit our workforce," he added.
Noting that the world today focuses on trade in goods, he said that in future the core issue will be how to get skilled people. "We need to work in this direction".
Modi also laid emphasis on speedy implementation of programmes undertaken by the World Bank.
"We live in a world where matters speed. Quick execution is essential. Speeding up World Bank projects will surely increase the impact," he said.
India, Pakistan overseas secretaries to meet in Islamabad
Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh will meet her Pakistani counterpart, Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, in Islamabad on August 25, following a telephonic conversation of the two diplomats on Tuesday.
The meeting holds significance as it comes after an array of ceasefire violations by the Pakistani Army across the LoC in the recent days.
Singh has conveyed that the ceasefire violations by Pakistan will hamper the peace process between the two countries. She said that meaningful co-operation can't take place with violence and bullets on the border.
