PM Narendra Modi praises ISRO for PSLV C-23 launch, asks scientists to develop a SAARC satellite

Newly elected Prime Ministerof india Narendra modi on Monday witnessed thelsunch of PSLV C-23 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre. Delighted Modi congratulated the Indian Space Research Organization scientists and thanked them for giving him the opportunity to witness the launch in person.

Speaking after the launch of the five foreign satellites, Modi said, "My congratulations to our brilliant space scientists for yet another successful launch of the polar satellite. This fills every Indian's heart with pride and I can see the joy and satisfaction on your faces. Feel privileged to watch this in person."

Talking about India’s progress in the satellite launch domain, Modi said, "We are proud that our programme is indigenous. Generations of scientists have worked to make India a self-reliant space power. Our space journey has come a long way from the humble beginnings. Our ancestors had conceived of ideas like 'Shunya' and 'flying objects', long before others."

Talking about the role of the Satellite technology , Modi said, "Such technology is fundamentally connected with the common man. As a change agent, it can empower and connect, to transform his life. Technology has a critical role in realizing the vision of a Digital India - the power of 125 crore connected Indians." He also praised ISRO for being cost-effective. "India's Mars mission is cheaper than the hit Hollywood movie 'Gravity'," Modi said.

Indian government working on world's major health insurance scheme

The new Indian government is planning to bring about a 'complete transformation' of the health sector and is working on the blueprint of the world's largest Health insurance programme. This was announced by Health Minister Harsh Wardhan as he read out a speech by Prime Minister Modi to a gathering of US-based Indian medical professionals in San Antonio, Texas, underscoring the need for all citizens to involve themselves in the national endeavor for "Healthy India

West Bengal Governor MK Narayanan resigns

Just after series of resignations of Governors who were appointed by the UPA government and have now been asked by the Narendra Modi government to quit. West Bengal Governor MK Narayanan stepped down on Monday after seeking time to reach on a decision. Earlier last week, the CBI had questioned Narayanan in the Augusta Westland chopper scam probe. MK Narayanan was questioned as a witness in the scam probe. MK Narayanan was the National Security Advisor at time of the chopper deal. He had presided over a meeting which made changes to technical specifications for VVIP Choppers. These changes enabled Agusta to enter the eligibility criteria so deal could be worked out. The CBI wants to get more details on the reasons behind making those changes.
