Overseas Leaders Rush To Meet Modi As India Plans To Allow FDI In Defence

Foreign governments are stepping up to visit Prime Minister Narendra Modi, drawn by the prospect of multi-billion-dollar deals as the Indian government prepares to open the nascent defence industry to foreign investment. Senior politicians from France, the United States and Britain arrive in quick succession over the next 10 days as Modi prepares to accelerate the modernization of the country's mostly Soviet-era weaponry. Modi intends to build up India's military capabilities and gradually turn the world's largest arms importer into a heavyweight manufacturer - a goal that has eluded every prime minister since independence in 1947. On the table is a proposal circulated within the new government to raise caps on foreign investment - with one option to allow complete foreign ownership of some defence projects.

Advani praises for Modi at BJP's workshop

Bharatiya Janata Party veteran LK Advani was all praise for Prime Minister Narendra Modi who led the party to a thumping victory in the Lok Sabha elections. On Day 2 of the BJP MPs' workshop being held at Surajkund, Advani called Modi the captain of the match as he hit triple century in his debut match only, said I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar. Advani also hailed Modi for reducing Congress to a position where it is not even eligible to be designated with the post of principal Opposition in Lok Sabha. "After 30 years, any party managed to formed government on its own. The party which ruled for 10 years need support to be the Leader of Opposition.. We have never faced a such situation," Advani told party MPs.

Foreign Minister meets concerned family members of Indians stuck in Iraq

Worried family members of Indians stranded in war-torn Iraq met Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Sunday evening and sought help to bring back their dear ones. This was Swaraj’s second meeting the family members of Indians stuck in the war-torn country. "They had last met us on 19th and today is 29th. Being worried is natural. Therefore they had come to ask us about our report," "I told them that earlier we had told you about a phone conversation with our ambassador but now I showed them a letter, wherein (red christen) in continuous touch - told us that everyone is safe,”
