It has a population of 540,000, according to the 2011 Census of India, being the 9th most populous urban centre in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Also known as Chittur and lying in the Poini River Valley, this district of Chittoor is a leading agricultural sector, famous for crops such as sugarcane, peanuts, mangoes and grains. Industries such as Amaron Batteries and Nutrine Confectionaries, which are the nation’s leading battery house and chocolate producers, respectively, also add to the revenue of the Chittoor District. However, the region is still an economically underprivileged zone as per the Government of India indicators. The famous ancient temple of Tirupati is situated in this parliamentary constituency, drawing lakhs of pilgrims every year.

 

About the Constituency:
The Tirupati Parliamentary constituency in the state of Andhra Pradesh is reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes. Located in the Chittoor District in the south of Andhra Pradesh, it is one of the 42 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state. 1,464,896 is the total electorate count in the Tirupati Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 40). Out of these 720,141 number of electorates are males and the remaining 744,755 are belong to the female category as the Election commission of India 2009 reports suggest. It has a population of 540,000, according to the 2011 Census of India, being the 9th most populous urban centre in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
