Yet to be named by Congress, Digvijaya Singh's son files nomination.
BHOPAL: In Raghogarh, the writ of 'raja' Digvijaya Singh supersedes the norms of the grand old party. On Friday, the Congress general secretary's son, Jaivardhan Singh, filed nomination as a candidate from the erstwhile family fiefdom of Raghogarh even as the party was grappling with its first list of candidates.
Later in the day, Congress released its first list of 115 candidates for MP assembly election but Jaivardhan's name didn't figure in it.
In Bhopal, party spokesman JP Dhanopia justified Jaivardhan's move, saying, "Jaivardhan has only filed his nomination declaring himself as a candidate, not a Congress candidate. He will get the party symbol only after he files the Form B in the nomination paper. Currently, he has fulfilled all requirements, except filing of Form B."
State Congress leaders said Jaivardhan's was the only name proposed for Raghogarh at the Congress screening committee. "There is no second name. He is the only candidate from the seat," said a senior leader.
Guna district Congress president Yogendra Lumba said Digvijaya didn't want to miss the auspicious "mahurat of Dhanteras" for filing Jaivardhan's nomination papers.
Around noon, Digvijaya's son drove down to the Guna district headquarters to file his poll papers, keeping his tryst with the auspicious hour. Dad Digvijaya and uncle Laxman Singh were by his side.
"Not just Jaivardhan, Mahendra Sisodiya has also filed his nominations as candidate from Bamori constituency in Guna, keeping the mahurat in mind," Lumba said.
