The Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) suffered a major setback, Senior party leader and former minister Ganesh Naik may join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Maharashtra assembly elections scheduled for later this year.

The speculation about Naik’s joining the BJP comes to the light when his son Sandeep Naik joined the BJP this year. Sandeep Naik joined the BJP on July 31, 2019.

Many other leaders have joined the BJP this year. Congress MLA (Naigaon, Mumbai) Kalidas Kolambkar, NCP MLAs Sandeep Naik (Airoli, Navi Mumbai), Vaibhav Pichad (Akole, Ahmednagar) and Shivendra Raje Bhosale (Satara) have joined the BJP in presence of Fadnavis and state BJP president Chandrakant Patil.
