Maharashtra civic polls to be in mid-Feb 2017, Maharashtra municipal polls 2017 schedule dates, Maharashtra civic polls latest notification
The State Election Commission, on Monday, announced January 1, 2017 as the cut-off date for electoral roll revision for the municipal polls 2017. Polling followed by counting of votes is likely in the first half of February.
The SEC has scheduled video conferencing on Tuesday with all 17 including Nagpur, Amravati and Akola from Vidarbha to guide the civic bodies on the pre-poll exercise.
With the cut-off date in place, eligible citizens can register themselves as voters by January 1. Existing voters can make changes, if any, also by the date. The NMC, in association with district administration, will close the electoral rolls on January 1 and finalize it. The SEC will also conduct special awareness drive between September 15 and October 14.

As per the NMC's schedule, new mayor has to assume charge by March 5. Therefore, entire poll exercise needs to be completed by February first half. The SEC also announced the schedule of ward demarcation and reservations for the purpose.
With the revision in ward system (from the existing two-member to four-member), NMC will have to complete the proposal for ward demarcation by September 23. The SEC will approve the draft on September 23 followed by notification inviting suggestions and objections between October 10 and 25. Hearing will take place on November 4 and ward demarcation will be finalized on November 25.
As per the SEC's schedule, reservation of wards will be finalized through lucky draw system on October 7, excluding Mumbai and Ulhasnagar corporations.
On Tuesday, the SEC is likely to announce the guidelines for preparing draft of ward demarcation. The SEC may also ask the civic bodies to prepare the draft of ward demarcation using satellite imagery. The state election watchdog has already cleared 2011 census as base for ward demarcation.
In view of the upcoming polls, additional municipal commissioner Ravindra Kumbhare, who had monitored the poll process in 2012, visited the war room for election at an undisclosed location in the city.
Municipal Elections Scenario 2012
In municipal elections 2012, the cut-off date was January 5 and the code of conduct was announced with effect from January 3. The code of conduct was in place till February 21. Polling was conducted on February 16 while counting of votes took place on February 17.
