About Kallakurichi:

One of the 39 parliamentary constituencies of Tamil Nadu, Kallakurichi belongs to the Viluppuram District. The Kallakurichi Parliamentary constituency (constituency number 14) has a total of 1,106,352 electorates out of which 549,992 are females and 556,360 are males according to Election Commission of India 2009 reports. This constituency came into existence following the Presidential notification of implementation of delimitation of parliamentary constituencies in 2008 and comprises of six segments of which three are in Villupuram district, and the other three are in Salem district which lies in Chola Nadu region. Three of these segments are reserved for the SC category and one is reserved for the ST category

About Kallakurichi:

The city of Kallakurichi is the center of administration of the Villupuram Distric and is located 59 km from Villupuram and about 160 km from Chennai. It stands at an elevation of over 130 m and covers a total area of 11.50 sq km. Tamil is the official language

The city has a population of over 51,000 people with 11% population under the age of 6. About 50% of the population is male and the sex ratio is 981 females for every 1000 males. The average literacy rate of the city is 82%. The urban workforce constitutes about 25% of the population and the leading industries in the area are of seeds, rice mills, sugar mill and other services and the place is nicknamed “Sugarcane City”. The National Highway NH-68 and the State Highways SH-6 and SH-204 pass through the city.
