Bihar Election: Eye on polls, Congress moves closer to Nitish Kumar
Bihar Election 2015The Congress is moving closer to Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar at a time when RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav is bargaining for more seats and refusing to announce that the coming Assembly polls will be fought under the leadership of Mr Kumar.

This is because Mr Yadav cannot contest the election. For the Congress, allying with the JD(U) is more beneficial than the RJD politically. This is because the upper castes, disillusioned with the BJP and the Modi government, could vote for a Nitish Kumar-led front.
If minorities in Bihar want a strong anti-BJP front, Mr Yadav is relying once again on the Mulsim-Yadav (MY) combination without realising that the Yadav votebank is no more intact and they are voting for the BJP. And if the BJP fields more Yadavs in this election, then the RJD would be a loser.
The social justice plank, which had made Mr Yadav a national leader, has now become an all-party agenda.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is said to be uncomfortable with Mr Yadav and impressed with the development agenda of Mr Nitish Kumar. Obviously, a JD(U), Congress, NCP and Left alliance would be a formidable alliance against the BJP which is unsure of winning the elections on its own. This has become clear when the saffron party is relying on “mahadalit” leader Jitan Ram Manjhi and rebel RJD leader Pappu Yadav to make a dent in the Janata Parivar in this election.
According to a TV news channel, the Congress has decided to support Mr Nitish Kumar. “If Lalu and Nitish are not able to secure the alliance and the Congress has to choose between the two, this time it is keen to go with Nitish,” said a senior Congress leader, the news channel said.
The decision was made on Saturday after Mr Rahul Gandhi held a meeting with Bihar Congress president Ashok Choudhary.
