NDA to win 85% seats in Bihar assembly polls: Ram Vilas Paswan

PATNA: Union minister and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) president Ram Vilas Paswan on Friday said the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would bag at least 85% seats in the upcoming Bihar assembly election.

Addressing a state-level 'Karyakartya Samagam' at packed S K Memorial Hall here, Paswan urged his party's rank and file to start working for the 2015 Bihar polls so that "LJP wins every seat it contests". "Nitish Kumar has been the CM for last ten years but is sadly unaware of what's going on among the people as he is a member of the legislative council. He had resigned after the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, but is now knocking the doors of the same Narendra Modi he once termed as communal," Paswan said. He also took a dig at the proposed RJD-JD (U)-Samajwadi Party 'Mahagathbandhan', saying such an alliance would never materialize.

The party, which has six MPs in the Lok Sabha, also launched a toll free number 1800-200-8080 as a part of its membership drive and set a target of enrolling 25 lakh members before the announcement of legislative assembly polls in Bihar. "The Congress, RJD and JD (U) have governed Bihar since independence. How can they blame others for non-development of the state?" LJP MP and party's central parliamentary board chairman Chirag Paswan asked amid thunderous applause.

Paswan Jr went on to question where Nitish Kumar was at the time of Forbesganj firing, Bagaha firing or Saran midday meal tragedy. "If he isn't concerned about his people, why should people care for him? The lathicharge on protesting students on Thursday is condemnable. Why can't Nitish Kumar, who claims to be a product of student movement, bear the voice of protest?" said Chirag whom Paswan Sr called 'bhavishya ka roop'.

Chirag also pitched for the formation of a 'Youth Commission' in Bihar and separate provision in the Union budget for development of youngsters. "Party tickets (for assembly polls) will not be given to anyone who has joined the party only for contesting elections. The loyal and hardworking party workers will get the tickets," he said.

The workers, who had come from all districts of Bihar, were spilling on the streets outside the convention venue and the party chief asked them to come out in similar numbers at the April 6 Mahadalit Panchayat in Varanasi. "After Bihar, it is the turn of UP where LJP once had 16 MLAs and even a minister. PM Narendra Modi has asked us to pay attention to UP too," Paswan Sr said.

LJP MPs Veena Devi, Choudhary Mahboob Ali Kaiser, Ram Chandra Paswan and several other party functionaries were present on the occasion.
