The 2.2 km-long flyover, which was being funded under the JNURM scheme was being constructed by IVRCL but got stuck midway as it hit several hurdles in the execution.
The state's chief minister, Mamata Banerjee, however had previously indicated that work will resume to complete the project in limbo
'I suddeny heard a loud noise, everything went dark'
Gopal Debnath, one of the survivors of the incident, was travelling from Howrah district in a Tata Sumo with three family members.
"Around 12 .30 - 12.45, I suddeny heard a loud noise and everything went dark. I lost consiounesss," he said. He was rescued by the driver and received first aid from the locals.
"I think at least 150 people are under the debris," a witness said.
The army has joined rescue efforts.
Firefighters and residents were trying with their bare hands to rescue those trapped under chunks of concrete and metal.
Ten persons died and 150 were stuck on Thursday following the collapse of an under-construction bridge in Girish Park area of North Kolkata, reports said.
Reports quoting eye-witnesses said that nearly 150 people are stuck under the collapsed bridge. They said that death toll may rise.
