16-May-15: The road ahead for BJP lies through Bihar

Exactly a year before — led by the charismatic and powerful political orator Narendra Damodardas Modi — the BJP stormed to power with a brute majority. On the first anniversary of the saffron wave crushing the Congress’ hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in China setting another milestone on the diplomatic front.
A year after this huge electoral victory things are, however, not the same on the domestic front for the BJP any more. It received a historical drubbing in Delhi, and if it loses the forthcoming Bihar Assembly polls, then it could set alarm bells ringing for the party. Also, the resurgence of Mr Rahul Gandhi in his new avatar is making the BJP somewhat uncomfortable.

14-May-15:Kerala JD(U) waits for signal from Bihar before Left turn

As M.P. Veerendra Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) cozies up to former partner CPM in Kerala, both parties are keenly watching the developments in Bihar. Change of loyalties in Kerala depends on the electoral exigencies in Bihar, which may delay the merger of Janata Dal (United), Rashtriya Janata Dal and four other Janata offshoots.
Party bosses are hesitant to face the Bihar assembly elections in November with a new party symbol as their voters are familiar with the “Arrow” of JD(U) and the “Lantern” of RJD. If they decide to form an alliance rather than merging with each other before the elections, Kerala’s political realignment can also wait.

14-May-15:Bihar leaders battle it out for election symbol ahead of Assembly polls

Janata Parivar's merger will not affect NDA's prospect in the Bihar Assembly elections: Union Minister and Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) chief Upendra KushwahaAmid speculation on six offshoots of old Janata Parivar taking time to decide name, flag and symbol of the new party, two major breakouts from both RJD and JD(U) – former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and Madhepura MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, are already eyeing the names, electoral symbols and flags of Lalu Yadav and Sharad Yadav-headed parties.

JD(U) spokesperson KC TYagi, in fact, claimed that his party and RJD would contest the assembly elections together in Bihar, indicating that a merger isn't on the cards just yet.

12-May-15: Bihar polls will test the new Rahul Gandhi

For all the energy which a rejuvenated Rahul Gandhi has infused into the Congress, only an inveterate optimist will say that the latest phase in the party's politics marks a turning point for it.

For the Congress to show that it is on the comeback trail, it has to win a few elections. As of now, there isn't much chance of it achieving this feat. In the recently-held municipal elections in West Bengal, for instance, the Congress showed no signs of emerging from the doldrums.

The next big test for the party will be in the Bihar assembly polls towards the end of the year. But, the BJP's main opponent there will be the Janata Dal (United)-Rashtriya Janata Dal combine, which is a part of the newly-formed Janata "parivar" although the latter's unity is currently in doubt.

12-May-15 :RJD, JD(U) may not contest Bihar polls as one entity

NEW DELHI: RJD and JD(U) may not contest this year's Bihar elections as one entity and on one symbol in what is being seen as a setback for their efforts to check BJP in the state.

"There is unanimity that we need to come together to defend secularism. But there are technical issues like what happens to individual symbols of parties after they have merged into one. We have to factor those in," Gupta, a close associate of RJD boss Lalu Prasad, said.
