Political career:
In 1987, elected to Lok Sabha from Nanded.
In 1999, elected as a Member of Legislative Assembly from Mudkhed constituency and inducted as a Cabinet minister for Revenue and Protocol.
In 2003, he became minister for Transport, Ports, Cultural Affairs and Protocol.
In November 2004, Chavan became Minister for Industries, Mining, Cultural Affairs & Protocol.
From 1995 to 1999, Chavan was General Secretary of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee.

Education: He has graduated in Science and has obtained his Masters in Business Management.
Political Career: The junior Mr Chavan started his political career in 1987-88 when he was elected as Member of Parliament from Nanded parliamentary constituency. In July 1992, he was elected as member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. He was Minister of State for Public Works between 1993 and 1994. Between 1995 and 1999 he was the General Secretary, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee.
In October 1999, he was elected as an MLA from the Mudkhed Assembly constituency in Nanded. In the same month, he was inducted as Cabinet Minister for Revenue and Protocol. Again, he contested the Assembly elections from Mudkhed in October 2004 and won by a margin of 71,000 votes. In November 2004 he was inducted into the Cabinet and since then has been holding charge of Industries, Mining, Cultural Affairs and Protocol.
Controversy : In 1988, two pieces of land were given away on nominal rent in Nanded; one to the Mahila Pragati Samaj run by Chavan's mother Kusumtai Chavan, and the other to Sai Sevabhavi Trust, which he himself heads. At that time Chavan was an MP from Nanded and his father was the Chief Minister of Maharashtra
