About the Constituency:

Spread over the three districts of Budgam, Ganderbal and Srinagar is the Parliamentary constituency of Srinagar in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is one of the six parliamentary seats that belong to this northern Indian state.

1,106,729 is the total electorate count in the Srinagar Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 2). Out of these 576,035 number of electorates are males and the remaining 530,694 are belong to the female category as the Election commission of India 2009 reports suggest. This constituency has played a key role in national politics as it houses the capital of the state and is the seat of power, besides being highly volatile politically. A stronghold of the political party of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, Srinagar comprises fifteen assembly segments. It was from the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency that the present Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, was elected the Member of Parliament three consecutive times (1998-2004). After him, the seat was won by his father, Farooq Abdullah.
