Agartala, Feb 12, 2013 :

32 polling stations of the state have been identified as hyper-sensitive and 112 were identified as ‘very sensitive’, Chief Electoral Officer Ashutosh Jindal said at the civil secretariat here this evening. He also said that nearly 25 thousand police and security personnel have been deployed across the state to ensure total security cover before, during and after the polls.

Speaking to reporters this evening, the CEO said that Central Para-Military Force troopers have been deployed in each polling station of the state. For additional security measure, Quick Response Teams (QRT) would be present in each polling station for tackling emergency situation. The QRTs would be mainly formed with jawans from Tripura State Rifles (TSR) though CPMF are also likely to be included in the lot. Majority of the sensitive polling stations are from Dhalai district.

While around 25 polling parties used to start during all previous assembly polls for distant polling stations, the CEO stated that polling parties for distant stations would start by 8 AM on Wednesday.

Asked about incidents of alleged pre-poll violence in the state, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) said that few complaints have reached the department. “We have asked concerned officials to collect factual reports on the issues. The department is looking into the issue”, he said.
