NEW DELHI:

Following the Bhartiya Janata Party's parliamentary meet, party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad on Tuesday demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh resign over the CBI's 'Coalgate' report. BJP is demanding the PM's resignation for allegedly trying to cover up scams.

Prasad also said that Law Minister Ashwani Kumar 'needs to be sacked'. "Our parliamentarians are angry over the mention of Vajpayee's name in the JPC Draft report," Prasad hit out.

Ravi Shankar Prasad accused the PM and Law Minister for pressurising the CBI on the issue of Coalgate. "Reports said that the Law Minister was busy correcting grammar of the CBI affidavit, does the CBI need a tutor?," asked Prasad.

"We will not cooperate with the govt because it doesn't allow us to raise questions on corruption," he added.

Parliament saw a stormy start to the second half of the Budget session on Monday with issues including coal scam, incidents of rape and alleged heckling of Mamata Banerjee rocking both Houses.

Lok Sabha could not transact any business except for introduction of two bills due to the uproar which led to repeated disruptions. Rajya Sabha witnessed uproar as members hotly debated rules for taking up a motion for adjournment of Question Hour to discuss government's alleged interference in preparing the CBI report on allocation of coal blocks.

While the Question Hour and Zero Hour were a casualty as the House saw heated arguments on holding a discussion on alleged interference in CBI functioning on the coalgate issue and putting the motion to vote in this regard.
