Prime Minister Narendra Modi Renaming Projects begun by UPA Government

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has taken steps to fulfil his avowed agenda of good governance, has told his ministers that there will be no renaming of projects begun by the previous government led by the UPA, a report said on Friday.

" On Thursday, Urban Development minister Venkaiah Naidu had said the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewable Mission (JNNURM) — the scheme of the previous UPA government — will be renamed and relaunched by the Narendra Modi government. The new project will be named after a “national icon”, he added."
Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju has said that the demand to rename Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi Airport after former Andhra Pradesh CM NT Rama Rao is justified. According to a report, of the 58 central government schemes, 17 are named after members of the Nehru-Gandhi family.

PM Modi, who was sworn-in on Monday evening, has, however, rejected "old-style functioning”. He is yet to take a decision on the format of addressing the nation. Addressing the nation in a live telecast is an old form of interaction. There is a speculation that Modi may address the nation possibly after the Parliament session June 4-11.

The Prime Minister has already asked his ministers to come up with a plan of action for the first 100 days, lay thrust on efficiency and delivery in their work and give quick response to representations from states and public representatives. The Modi government has also moved to prevent possibility of nepotism with the ministers asked to select their personal staff from the general pool.
