Altogether 21 candidates file nomination papers for Aurangabad civic body polls

 Twenty-one candidates have filed their nomination papers for election to 113 wards of the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) due on April 22. The last AMC election was held for 99 wards in April 2010. According to the sources in election office of AMC here, as manyas 1,650 aspiring candidates have taken at least 3,234 nomination papers since March 31 for election. The process of distributing nomination papers began on March 31and will end on April 7, which is also the last date for filing of nomination papers.

 

The scrutiny will be held on April 8, while the last date for withdrawal of nominations is April 10. The counting of votes will take place on April 23, said sources. Despite several rounds of talks for pre-poll alliance between the BJP and Shiv Sena, there was no progress as such due to differences on some seats. Unconfirmed reports stated that both the parties want to contest this election on its own instead of an alliance. On the other hand, the Congress in the city is against an alliance with NCP. While, NCP state president Sunil Tatkare, who is in city, will declare their party strategy in a press conference here later this evening.

 

City Progressive Alliance and Aurangabad Bachchav Morcha,comprising several factions, have decided to fight elections at all the 113 seats.

 

Dalits factions like BRP-BMM, BSP, RPI and Dalit Panther willalso fight election in dalit-dominated areas of the city.

 

The new entrant All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), which successfully won the Aurangabad Central Assembly seat in city and was runner-up on another Aurangbad East Assembly seat, will contest 60 seats in Muslim and Dalit dominated areas, said party sources.
