Violence marred the second phase of panchayat polls in West Bengal as three people have been reportedly killed on Monday. A Trinamool Congress supporter succumbed to his injuries following a clash reportedly between two factions of the party in the Mangalkot area of Burdwan.

A CPI(M) candidate's husband has been killed after a crude bomb was hurled at him in Asansol. The incident took place in the morning while he was on his way to the polling booth in the Jamuria area of Asansol subdivision in Durdwan district.

One of the attackers has been lynched to death with sharp weapons by the locals.

Meanwhile, the voter turnout in East Midnapore, Burdwan and Hooghly stood at 28 per cent, 29 per cent and 30 per cent respectively.

Polls are scheduled in the districts of Burdwan, Hooghly and East Midnapore. Both Singur and Nandigram, places which paved Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's assent to state power, would also vote during this phase.

Elections are taking place across 12,542 polling stations and most of them are declared 'sensitive'.

The Candidates will fight for 10,545 seats in 707 Gram Panchayats, 2,047 seats in 74 Panchayat Samitis and 185 seats in three Zilla Parishads.
