Tripura to vote on 18 Feb, Meghalaya, Nagaland to vote on 27 Feb, counting of votes on 3 March, says ECI

  1. Election to the three states will happen in two rounds.
  2. Tripura will vote on February 18, 2017, which is a Sunday.Meghalaya and Nagaland will vote on February 27 (Tuesday).
  3. Counting for all three states will be conducted on March 3, 2018. The results will be declared on the same day.
  4. VVPATs and EVMs will be used in the three states. While EVMs have been used for the last 20 years in these three states, VVPATs will be deployed for the first time for the Assembly polls, Joti says.

 

 

  1. According to Zee News, the Assembly elections are likely to be held in February and voting in all the three northeastern states will be conducted in a single phase.

  2. The Tripura Legislative Assembly election of 2013 took place in a single phase on 14 February 2013 to elect the Members of the Legislative Assembly. 
  3. The final electoral rolls of Tripura were published on 5 January with names of 25,69,216 voters, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sriram Taranikanti had said.
  4. The terms of the Assemblies in Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura — with 60 seats each — will expire on 6, 13 and 14 March respectively.  

The tenure of Tripura assembly ends in March 6, 2018.
