NEW DELHI: BJP's top guns, includingNarendra Modi, L K Advani, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitely, will soon start campaigning for the party's chief ministerial candidate for Delhi polls, Dr Harsh Vardhan.

Sources said the campaign would start post-Diwali, soon after announcing the first list of candidates. These leaders are understood to have pushed Vardhan's case against that of state president Vijay Goel. BJP president Rajnath Singh, believed to be a supporter of Delhi unit chief Vijay Goel, had campaigned extensively after Goel's appointment in February.

Sources say Modi is expected to either hold a road show or a couple of public meetings around November last week. Sushma has promised 100 meetings while Advani and Jaitely have also blocked several dates for Vardhan's campaign, sources said. The party's star-turned-politicians like Shatrughan Sinha and Smriti Irani have also backed Vardhan.

The party will soon chalk out a comprehensive campaign strategy for Vardhan, sources said.

Within four days of Vardhan's selection, BJP has put up hoardings that show Vardhan sharing space with the party's prime ministerial candidate, Modi. To play up Vardhan's clean image, the hoardings emphasize on having an 'imaandar' (honest) chief ministerial candidate. His selection, which allegedly followed bitter infightings, is understood to be an attempt to corner Congress over the corruption issue and counter the Aam Aadmi Party's anti-corruption agenda.

Starting Monday, BJP's poll in-charge for Delhi, Nitin Gadkari, is expected to hold back-to-back meetings to finalize the first list of candidates for the assembly polls. The list of 40-50 candidates is expected to be announced by October 31. This first list would include around 20 out of 24 sitting MLAs and a few sure-shot contenders. The second list will probably be announced after Congress' list is out.
