BJP set to name Vardhan as poll face, efforts on to mollify Goel, BJP CM Candidate .
NEW DELHI: BJP looks set to reject Vijay Goel's claim to be the party's CM candidate for Delhi and is trying to cajole him into accepting Harsh Vardhan as the mascot for the coming polls.

Although the formal decision on the vexed leadership issue is expected to be taken by the party's parliamentary board later this week, sources in the party confirmed that Goel has failed to secure the endorsement of central leaders.
They also said that the delay in formally projecting Vardhan was only because the party was fearful of the prospect of outbreak of dissidence at a time when it hopes to unseat the Sheila Dikshit government by exploiting "incumbency".
Sources said they realize Goel, who fancied himself as the CM candidate virtually since he was nominated party chief, is going to take a "no" really hard and, therefore, efforts are being made to bring him around. Sources said BJP chief Rajnath Singh has assigned the responsibility of persuading Goel to party general secretary Ram Lal.
The caution seemed justified on Monday when Goel's decision to address a press conference at Constitution Club sparked speculation. Although he, in response to queries, denied that he was a CM aspirant saying it was up to the party's parliamentary board to take the decision, the leadership remains wary of his possible response in case he is denied the opportunity to be the face of the party's campaign.
