Gone are the years of elections when the results were guessed or judged on the basis of caste, region or religion. The latest voter buzz this year is about the first-time voters, the young India. It has been estimated that around 150 million out of 725 million registered voters are first-time voters and will therefore be playing a crucial role in the elections. 20% of voting is in the hands of these first-time voters.

Not just this but the young generation is politically more sound this time. They have keenly observed UPA's last tenure and have noticed inflation, corruption and other scams more deeply.

If we talk about Congress' rural support of voters, it will unfortunately not be aiding Congress this time. Due to the problems of inflation and joblessness, they have suffered. Similarly, if we talk about Minorities, the Muzzafarnagar riots and the betrayal faced there can't be forgotten. The wave of the Muzzafarnagar riots will likely be hitting across North India. Hence, we could see Congress losing two of its strengths, the (poverty-stricken) rural people and the (deceived) Muslims.

Now let us talk about BJP. First-time voters will back BJP. Why? Because of Narendra Modi. How? They have been keeping track of Gujarat and its development and are certainly wishing for similar changes to spread across the country and then of course the urban-middle class support along with a backing from the Hindu Majority. Not to forget, the leadership deficiency, which the Congress has shown in the past tenure, is like a gift for the BJP.

"I will be voting for the first time. I would not like to disclose my party choice but definitely not Congress," said Ayushi from Ramjas College, Delhi University.
"I have gone through the surveys and I think they are going to turn true. BJP will take it," said Anisha from Jesus and Mary College, Delhi University.

What I should not forget to tell you is that Coalition politics has been dominating Indian Politics at least from a few decades now and you should be ready to have another coalition this time as well. A US spy Chief has also very clearly pointed out that Coalition will continue to dominate Indian politics this time as well. Thence, do not forget how important the role of regional parties in the polity of India is.

General Elections 2014 will be an exciting chapter in the book on politics of India. The Surveys have also been suggesting a clear sweep by the opposition. Time will tell. Stay tuned.
