Jayalalithaa, 67, was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor K. Rosaiah at the packed Madras University Centinary Auditorium. Chennai, AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa was sworn-in as chief minister of Tamil Nadu for the fifth time on Saturday. Jayalalithaa, 67, was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor K. Rosaiah at the packed Madras University Centinary Auditorium. The governor also administered oath of office to the council of ministers. Jayalalithaa would head a 29-member government in the 14th Tamil Nadu assembly.
A large number of people lined on both the sides of the roads starting from Jayalalithaa's residence till the swearing-in venue. The AIADMK party won the elections in 2011 and Jayalalithaa was sworn in as the chief minister then.

Assembly elections in Bihar, where BJP is set for a battle against a united Janata Parivar, are likely to be held sometime in September-October when extensive central forces and a reworked expenditure monitoring system will be deployed to curb money and muscle power.
The electoral rolls will be ready on July 31, Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi said, terming the polls in Bihar as "mother of all elections".

23-May-15:Janata Parivar collapses before taking first steps in Bihar polls
Barely a month after they got together at SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav's residence to patch up a unit to take on the BJP, the much hyped Janta merger seems to be off, at least till Bihar assembly elections.
Leaders of six parties had declared a merger on April 15. According to sources, in a long meeting today, all the leaders got together and decided against a merger. A decision was taken to work under a broader anti-BJP alliance rather than formalise the merger.

Immediately after the meeting on Janata Parivar merger ended in New Delhi, Mr Lalu Yadav urged all non-BJP parties in Bihar to come together and contest polls in an alliance to stop the BJP from coming to power. The offer was meant to rope in the Congress and former Bihar CM Jitan Ram Manjhi.
“Bihar election is very crucial for us. Any of these offers cannot be decided without analysing how beneficial it would be for the party. We will first discuss this in our working committee meeting, then decide,” Bihar PCC chief Ashok Choudhary told this newspaper.
22 May 2015 - No assembly polls duty for striking Bihar home guards
Patna, Bihar government has decided not to deploy the Home Guards, who are on strike for the past one week, on duty for assembly polls due later this year, an official said on Friday.
On Thursday, the state government filed an FIR against 18 Home Guards personnel and 150 unidentified people following the death of a patient who was stuck in traffic for hours due to "chakka jam" on Gandhi Setu bridge here the previous day, police said.
The state government has warned the Home Guards of strict action if they are found involved in violence and damaging public property.

As the highly-anticipated merger of Janata Parivar is heading for an uncertain fate, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad on Thursday called for inclusion of Jitan Ram Manjhi in the united secular front for its fight against the BJP in Bihar.
However, Lalu's open invitation to Manjhi - the archrival of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar - has left the ruling JD(U) fuming.
The RJD president stressed the need for the unity of all secular leaders, including Manjhi, to keep the BJP away from power in the state.
"Whether it is a merger or an alliance, I think there is a need for a broader unity of parties opposed to the BJP," Lalu said in Patna before leaving for Delhi for the proposed talks with Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav on the merger issue. "I think everybody, including Manjhi, should come forward for a common cause," said Lalu.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced it will not contest the Bihar assembly election likely to be held in September-October this year.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, AAP's Bihar-Jharkhand affairs in charge Sanjeev Jha said the party as of now is not in a position to contest the Bihar assembly election. "But we will support candidates who have a clean image, who do not have criminal antecedents and who do not indulge in caste-based politics," he said and clarified the party's choice would be based solely on the character of candidates, not party affiliations.

The Election Commission has sought a panel of 400 'clean' IAS officers for appointment as general observers during Bihar polls and has asked DoPT to not recommend officers who have been repeatedly 'sponsored' in the past for the job. Signalling it has started preparations for the Bihar polls, EC wrote to DoPT earlier this month, asking for the panel of IAS officers for observer duties.

Rashtriya Janata Dal President Lalu Prasad on Thursday invited former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, a known detractor of Nitish Kumar, to join the process of uniting parties against the Bharatiya Janata Party for the upcoming Assembly polls in Bihar.

23-May-15: AGP sounds poll bugle
The Asom Gana Parishad virually sounded poll bugle holding a huge rally in Guwahati on Wednesday targetting both Delhi and Dispur. Hundreds of party workers joined the rally which touch the major portions of the city. In his address working president Atul Bora alleged that the Narendra Modi government at the Centre has hardly any agenda to uplift Assam.

Assam CM Tarun Gogoi has ruled out retirement from politics, declaring that he will contest the assembly elections due next year.
A combative Gogoi on Wednesday even ruled out alliance with AIUDF or any other party, saying the Congress will form the government in the state on its own. Congress party is now working on a action plan to counter BJP's mission 84-plus in Assam.
