The Election Commission has advanced the date for special summary revision of electoral rolls in Telangana by about three months, to October 8 this year, indicating a possibility of early polls along with the other four poll-bound states.

The states of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Mizoram are slated to go for the polls in November-December this year.

This decision comes as a relief for Telangana Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao who was watching the initial elections to cancel the Telangana elections with the Lok Sabha elections. However, for the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), it takes a little time to prepare and hold discussions for the voting agreements.

The BJP has announced that it will contest all 119 seats in Telangana while the ruling TRS has already announced names of 100 candidates.

The final publication of the electoral rolls list for Telangana will now be held on October 8, compared to January 1, 2019 - the last publication date of the revised electoral roll in the rest of the country.

Incidentally, the EC had earlier censured the Telangana CM for announcing election the schedule.

On the direction of the Election Commission, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana ordered to stop all the activities relating to the ongoing special summary revision of photo electoral rolls with reference to January 01, 2019 as qualifying date in the state with immediate effect.

After the dissolution of Telangana State Legislative Assembly on September 6, 2018, keeping in view all aspects of the state legislative assembly and in the special reference number 1 of 2002, the decision has been taken by the Election Commission by the Supreme Court, Telangana CEO Rajat Kumar said.

The publication of integrated draft electoral rolls will be taken up on September 10, while the period of filing claims and objections is from September 10 to 25. Disposal of claims and objections will be done by October 4 and updating of database and printing of supplement before October 7, the release said.
