Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation election 2017 Live Voting Second Phase

  1. Voting for the second phase of local body elections is being held today across 25 districts in Uttar Pradesh.
  2. Varanasi and Lucknow are among the prominent regions which will vote today. For the first time in 100 years, Lucknow, the city of Nawabs, will choose a woman mayor. 
  3. The first phase of civic polls in the state, which covered 24 districts and was held on November 22, saw a voter turnout of over 52 per cent.

Ghaziabad goes to polls on November 26, more than 13.5 lakh to vote.

The Ghaziabad district’s civic body polls will be held in the second phase of elections, on November 26, as per the schedule announced by the state Election Commission (EC) on Friday.

Over 13.5 lakh voters will exercise their franchise for choosing 100 councilors. Also, the post of mayor is reserved for a woman.

The municipal corporation area, comprising Kavi Nagar, Indirapuram, Vaishali, Vasundhara, Kaushambi, Delta colonies, Rajendra Nagar and Lajpat Nagar, among others, was earlier restricted to 80 wards. The notification for the addition of 20 more wards was issued by the state government earlier this year.

AAP announces first list of candidates for Ghaziabad local body polls 

The AAP district office bearers released a list of 37 candidates, 12 of them are women. The Uttar Pradesh election commission is yet to notify the schedule for local body polls pegged to be held in November this year.

  • The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday announced their first list of candidates who will be contesting the local body elections in Ghaziabad district. The AAP district office bearers released a list of 37 candidates, which includes 12 women candidates.
  • The state election commission is yet to notify the schedule for local bodies elections pegged to be held in November this year. 
  • Of the names released, 20 candidates will contest the Ghaziabad municipal elections, 11 candidates will contest the elections for Loni Nagar Palika Parishad, four candidates will vie for seats in Khoda Nagar Palika and two will stand for elections to the Modi Nagar Nagar Palika.
  • The number of wards in Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) increased to 100 after the delimitation exercise held earlier this year on the basis of the 2011 census. 
  • “Our party will be contesting on all seats (in Ghaziabad). We will also field mayoral candidate. So far, we have received 14 applications from potential candidates and these include doctors, retired defence officers, professionals and social workers, among others. We may choose the candidate from our workers or may be someone else from outside too. A complete list of candidates from all wards will be announced soon,” AAP district convener Dr Sachin Sharma said, adding that the candidates have been selected on the basis of their clean background and crime-free record.
