Maya, Jaya oppose Modi government's move as Hindi directive row escalates

 

The Linguistic War from decades in the Indian history has touched a new level altogether with the Union Home Ministry issuing orders to use Hindi for interactions on the social media and different voices emerging from regional parties on the issue. While DMK chief Karunanidhi had on Thursday strongly opposed the government's move to 'promote' Hindi, The Tamil Nadu J Jayalalita also reacted on the issue as her reactions comes a day after the DMK chief K Karunanidhi objected to the MHA directives. She warned the Centre saying, "As you are aware, this is a highly sensitive issue and causes disquiet to the people of Tamil Nadu who are very proud of and passionate about their linguistic heritage." "Hence, I request you to kindly ensure that instructions are suitably modified to ensure that English is used on social media,"

 

 

3.   Minister to study the facts of Rape Charges against Nihal Chand PMO

 

The PMO has deputed a senior leader to study the facts of regarding Minister of state Nihal Chand. The Prime Minister's Office on Friday intervened in the rape case against the said minister. In 2011, when a woman was allegedly sexually abused and exploited by 17 people, including Nihal Chand. Jaipur court has issued a notice against all 17 including Nihal Chand. Victim has accused the Union minister for trying to intimidate her into withdrawing the case and has also appealed to PM for justice. Meanwhile it seems that the Bharatiya Janata Party is fully backing Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Nihal Chand despite allegations of rape against him. According to sources, Nihal Chand explained his position to Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday. Sources say Rajnath is convinced of the defense being offered by Nihal Chand and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has briefed party spokespersons to back him.

  

2.Ouster of NDMA head and members Justified by BJP Spokesperson

Shahnawaz Hussain Spokesperson to BJP justified NDA government's move to seek the ouster of heads and members of NDMA and said they should quit with the change of guard at the Centre. He said senior members and heads of the panel have to decide for themselves as the Prime Minister through whom their appointments were done is no longer in power. "When their Prime Minister is no longer there and they were appointed through him and they contested election and they did politics, then they have to take decisions about themselves", Shahnawaz Hussain Said.


AIIMS like national hospitals in to be built in 11 states Center

In a significant development the Union Health Ministry has written a letter to eleven states to find land to build All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) like institutes and asked them to get back to the ministry within a month. The states to which letters have been written are Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Assam, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Punjab and Haryana. The ministry has asked states to identify an area of over 2500 acres, which the states have to give the ministry for free to build AIIMS Reports.

 

 

5.  Health Ministry demands cigarette price hike in upcoming budget

 

In a move to stop people from consuming cigarettes, The Health Ministry has written to the Finance Ministry to increase the taxes on cigarettes thereby increasing its price. The request by the Health Ministry comes ahead of the general Budget that the Narendra Modi government is likely to present on July 11. The Health Ministry has urged the Finance Minister to increase the price of cigarettes. It has also urged the Finance Ministry to scrap the tax exemption on bidis, and also redefinition of taxation policy should be formulated to avoid tax evasions.
