Cairo, (IANS) Egypt's parliamentary elections will be held before the end of 2015, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi told a Spanish newspaper in an interview that was published on Wednesday.

The Egyptian president told El Mundo that the polls were due to be held in March but the constitutional appeals against the newly-drafted election law delayed the process, Xinhua news agency reported.

"The state is determined to hold the parliamentary elections to complete Egypt's democratic institutions," Sisi added.

In early March, Egypt's Administrative Court ordered the delay of the parliamentary elections after the Supreme Constitutional Court ruled parts of the electoral laws, related to division of constituencies as "unconstitutional."

Egypt's parliamentary polls, the first since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi by the military in July 2013, were supposed to kick off on March 21 until May 7.

Dhaka, (IANS) Three city corporations in Bangladesh on Tuesday went to the polls that were marred by violations and boycotted by former prime minister Khaleda Zia's Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

The election day passed off without a major incident although all the three BNP-backed mayoral candidates in Dhaka and the seaport city of Chittagong pulled out of the race alleging the polls were rigged and unfair, Xinhua reported.

A total of 48 aspirants ran for mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation, Dhaka North City Corporation and Chittagong City Corporation, while 249 contested 45 reserved seats and 891 contested for the 134 general councillor posts.

BNP leader Moudud Ahmed said they were boycotting the "farce election" to protest the massive rigging by the ruling Awami League party.

Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif, a leader of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Awami League, dismissed the allegations.

Stray incidents of clashes, arson, vandalism, chase and counter-chase as well as detention were reported in Dhaka and Chittagong.

According to the country's electoral rules, such city corporation and municipal elections are to be held in a non-partisan manner, but political parties indirectly nominate candidates to test their popularity in such local level elections, Xinhua said.

Harare, (IANS) Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe has fired his deputy Joice Mujuru and seven other cabinet ministers in a move that shocked the southern African nation.

According to a statement issued by the chief secretary to the president and cabinet, Misheck Sibanda, Mugabe exercised his executive powers to relieve Mujuru of her position on the grounds that "it had become evident that her conduct in the discharge of her duties had become inconsistent with the expected standard, exhibiting conflict between official responsibilities and private interests".
