Assembly Election Opinion/Exit Poll, Survey Result, Who will win in Assembly Elections 2016

Even better from the party's point of view is the fact that the latest forecast of 40 out of 80 seats in UP is an improvement over the 35 predicted by the same pollster a month ago. Narendra Modi and his team will hope that this indicates a gathering of momentum in India's most populous state, which can yield even better results with about two months left before the polls.

In Bihar, however, the latest poll shows BJP winning 21 seats, slightly down from 24 predicted in January. It also predicts that if Congress were to firm up an alliance with Lalu Prasad's RJD and Ram Vilas Paswan's LJP, BJP's tally in Bihar would be cut to 16.

The survey indicates that BJP's impressive showing in UP will come at the cost of all the three other major players. The Congress-RLD combine, which won 26 seats in 2009, is predicted to win 11, SP is projected to decline from 23 to 14 and BSP from 20 to 13. AAP, the poll suggests, will also win a seat in the state.

BJP is shown as being most dominant in western UP, winning 16 of the 28 seats in this region, an indication perhaps that the communal polarization following the Muzaffarpur riots is working to its advantage. AAP's lone seat, incidentally, is also predicted to be from this region, perhaps Noida or Ghaziabad, though the poll didn't specify this.

In Bihar, the no-alliance scenario has BJP winning 21, JD(U) 9, RJD 5, Congress 2 and LJP 1 with 'others' picking up the remaining two seats. If the Congress-RJD-LJP alliance materializes, on the other hand, BJP' tally is predicted to dip to 16, the alliance's is seen as rising to 14 and JD(U) would win 8, according to the poll.
