India TV Cvoter Opinion poll: BJP may end short of majority in Jharkhand, behind PDP in Kashmir

New Delhi, (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may fall short of majority in the Jharkhand Assembly polls while the Peoples Democratic Party would emerge as the single-largest party in Jammu and Kashmir, according to an opinion poll telecast Tuesday. India TV-CVoter tracking poll said that BJP may fall short of majority in the Jharkhand assembly polls with the party projected to win within a range of 29-35 seats out of a total of 81.

According to a press release, the opposition People's Democratic Party is projected to emerge as the single largest party with a seat range of 27-33 seats in a house of 87 in Jammu and Kashmir.

In Jharkhand, the opinion poll predicted 29-35 seats for BJP, 17-23 seats for Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, 6-12 seats for Jharkhand Vikas Morcha, 7-13 seats for Congress and 7-13 seats for others.

In 2009 assembly polls, the JMM and BJP had won 18 seats each, Congress had won 14 and JVM 11.

  • In terms of percentage, the poll predicted a 12 percent swing in favour of BJP, which is projected to get 32 percent votes, followed by JMM with 19 percent, Congress with 13 percent and JVM with 12 percent.

 

  • In Jharkhand, Chief Minister Hemant Soren was the frontrunner with 14 percent non-tribals and 30 percent tribals supporting him, followed by JVM chief Babulal Marandi who was favoured by 20 percent non-tribals and 22 percent tribals.

The release said that the opinion poll is based on interviews of 4,322 randomly respondents done in the first week of November.

The opinion poll said that in Jammu and Kashmir, the Mehbooba Mufti-led People's Democratic Party is projected to get 27-33 seats, followed by BJP with 23-29, National Conference 10-16, Congress 6-12, and others 6-12 seats.

In the 2009 elections, National Conference had won 28 seats, Congress 17, PDP 21 and BJP 11 seats.

  • In terms of percentage, a 22 percent swing has been projected in favour of BJP up from 12 percent in 2009 to 34 percent while a 10 percent swing has been projected in favour of PDP up from 15 percent last time to 25 percent now. The survey projected that National Conference will get 11 percent votes and Congress 15 percent.
  • The release said that PDP leader Mufti Mohammed Sayeed was the frontrunner for the post of chief minister with 53 percent favouring him in the valley, 20 percent in Jammu and 10 percent in Ladakh region.

 

The release said that the opinion poll is based on interviews of 4,322 randomly respondents done in the first week of November.
