Latest JNU 2016 Updates:-

JNU row: President, Election Commission to take action against Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal for 'support' to anti-nationals? - The row over anti-national slogans in Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University fails to die down. In a major development, BJP's Member of Parliament from North-East Delhi constituency has written to President Pranab Mukherjee, Chief Election Commissioner Dr Nasim Ahmad Zaidi, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh over anti-national slogans that were raised in JNU.

JNU row: How Kanhaiya Kumar became President of JNU's students union - A night before the JNU student union presidential election debate was to be held in September last year, the All India Students Federation (AISF) was quite sure to bag at least the key post of Student Union's General Secretary. It was however Kanhaiya Kumar's rousing speech that drove AISF ahead of the powerful All India Students Association (AISA), making him the first ever JNU president from the student wing of the Communist Party of India (CPI). The ABVP, according to many of Kanhaiya's friends, was out of the race the moment Kanhaiya was done with his first sentence.

"He (Kanhaiya) was always good at debates, even in college. He had such a soft corner for the poor and downtrodden of the country and the passion with which he spoke about them, one could easily see how sincere he was. He once told me that words come to him naturally when he talks of the poor," said Amit Kumar, the national secretary of AISF and a friend of Kanhaiya's from the last 12 years.

Kanhaiya Kumar assaulted at Patiala House court, says 'my life is at risk' - High drama was witnessed at the Patiala House court in the national capital on Wednesday as Jawaharlal Nehru Students' Union president Kanhaiya Kumar was produced before the court. Kanhaiya, who is charged with sedition, was assaulted by a group of lawyers at the court.
"My life is at risk. If I am guilty, send me to jail but stop the media trial against me," Kanhaiya told the court.

JNU premier institute with powerful, alternative voice: Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad - AMID THE protests over the JNU row, the government said Wednesday that the university is a “premier institution” with a “constructive alternative voice” which the country is “equally eager to hear”. “JNU is a very premier institution of India, widely respected also. It has produced outstanding civil servants, great academicians and also well-known public figures. Its faculty and students also excel well. We all think that there is also a very eloquent, powerful and constructive alternative voice in JNU. The country is equally eager to hear that voice,” said Communications and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today.

We are of this country and love the soil of India: Kanhaiya Kumar - They are the people who burn the tricolour; they are the stooges of Savarkar, who apologised to the British. They are the people who, right now, in Haryana, run the Khattar government that has renamed after a Sanghi an airport named after Shaheed Bhagat Singh. The upshot is, we don’t need a certificate of patriotism from the RSS.

We don’t need the RSS to certify us as nationalists. We are of this country and love the soil of India. We fight for those 80 per cent of this country’s people who are poor. For us, this is desh bhakti. We have full faith in Babasaheb. We have full faith in our country’s Constitution. And we want to firmly assert that if anyone lifts a finger against this country’s Constitution — whether the Sanghis or anyone else — we won’t tolerate it. We have faith in the Constitution. But we have no faith in the constitution that is taught at Jhandelwala and Nagpur.

We have no faith in the Manusmriti. We have no faith in or trust in the deep-rooted caste system in this country. That very Constitution, that same Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, talk about constitutional remedies in the Constitution. That same Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar talked about abolishing capital punishment. That same Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar talked of freedom of expression. We uphold the Constitution. We want to uphold our basic right, our constitutional right.
