Congress releases Chandigarh Poll Manifesto, Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Election Manifesto Results 2016, CMC Local Body Civic Election, Congress Manifesto
Two days before the MC poll, the Chandigarh Congress today released the party’s manifesto for the elections on December 18. In the manifesto, there was no new project for the city. The manifesto was also silent on generating revenue for the already cash-strapped Municipal Corporation.
The manifesto was released by former Union Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal and Chandigarh Congress president Pardeep Chhabra.
Key promises made
- To develop more multilevel parking slots, as developed in Sec 17
- To upgrade civil dispensaries, smart schools under MC
- To create more underpasses to ease out traffic
- Proper implementation of oustees scheme for the land owners whose land has been acquired.
- To renovate all existing green belts, parks and neighbourhood parks.
Congress president Pardeep Chhabra said after coming to power, they would rationalise house tax and exempt senior citizens and widows from property tax on residential/ commercial property up to the rental income of Rs 10,000 per month. Besides, Congress candidate Poonam Sharma (Ward No. 4) also released her vision document for the development of the ward.
‘No voting right to nominated councillors’
- Bansal, while replying to a query on voting rights of nominated councillors, said it was partially his mistake as there was no provision of voting rights for nominated councillors in the Constitution. He even raised a question on the voting right of the Member of Parliament. But as the matter was now pending in the High Court, he did not want to touch the issue any more, Bansal said.
