By-poll for Ghoradongri (ST) assembly seat, announced to be held on May 30, will decide the fate of BJP after Opposition parties' anti-dalit plank.

The bypoll is another acid test for chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, after a major debacle in tribal dominated Jhabua parliamentary by-election, which will not only decide the clout of the chief minister in the tribal belt but, also his influence among voters after completing 10 years in power.

By-election for Ghoragondri? has been necessitated following the demise of BJP's sitting? MLA? Sajjan Singh Uike, who was also a winner in 2003 assembly polls. In 2013 assembly elections, Sajjan Singh Uike again won this seat defeating Congress candidate Brahma Bhalavi by a margin of 8084 votes.

The result for Ghoradongri bypoll will be declared on June 2. Earlier, by-elections for this seat were announced for May 16 and result was expected on May 19 but, due to Simhastha in Ujjain, as the entire government machinery has been deployed for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit, the state government had requested the election commission to reschedule the polling.
Ghoradongri as a tribal seat has been a BJP bastion for the last 10 years. After 1990 BJP won this seat four times against Congress, who won during 1993 and 1998 assembly polls, but could not retain in 2003 due to anti-Congress, anti-Digvijaya Singh wave.

To win the seat, BJP is relying on former MLA Gita Ramgilal Uike, who wrested the seat in 2008. She has already staked her claim to re-enter active politics from this seat. Gita has recently met chief minister Chouhan, BJP state head Nandkumar Singh and organising general secretary Suhas Bhagat to claim the ticket.

Name of Ganga Sajjansingh Uike, wife of late MLA, is also doing rounds for the party candidate. Supporters of Sajjan Singh want her name as a contestant and the party is also hopeful to gain sympathy votes if Ganga is given ticket from the assembly bypoll, said BJP sources.

Chief minister Chouhan, who is reaching Ghoradongri on May 3, has already focused on the bypoll. He is likely to meet senior party and tribal leaders to assess the situation and discuss crucial strategy with them. The chief minister will also take feed back from the party workers on the name of Gita, apart from Ganga Sajjan Singh, who has not given her consent to contest this bypoll.
