28-May-15: DONER Ministry launched Rs 200 crore projects for Assam
Jitendra Singh, union minister of state (Independent charge) for development of North-eastern Region (DoNER) on Wednesday announced a Rs 200 crore package for Assam.
The project covers issues related to water supply schemes and roadways. Highlighting the uniqueness of these projects, Singh said these projects were specifically formulated keeping in mind the needs of the state.
The DoNER minister also announced a Rs 125-crore package for the Northeastern region as a whole, which would primarily support organic farming of cardamom and several varieties of fruits.
23-May-15: AGP sounds poll bugle
The Asom Gana Parishad virually sounded poll bugle holding a huge rally in Guwahati on Wednesday targetting both Delhi and Dispur. Hundreds of party workers joined the rally which touch the major portions of the city. In his address working president Atul Bora alleged that the Narendra Modi government at the Centre has hardly any agenda to uplift Assam.

"I'll contest elections next year and I am ready for a fight," Gogoi said when asked if he will be in the fray next year for the upcoming Assembly polls.
When asked about Congress' performance, Gogoi said "we'll form government again next year. There is no doubt on this." "We'll contest the polls alone. We'll get majority and form government on our own. We'll not require any alliance to form government," Gogoi said.

Assam CM Tarun Gogoi has ruled out retirement from politics, declaring that he will contest the assembly elections due next year.
A combative Gogoi on Wednesday even ruled out alliance with AIUDF or any other party, saying the Congress will form the government in the state on its own. Congress party is now working on a action plan to counter BJP's mission 84-plus in Assam.

Land deal: AGP rally on Saturday
The AGP will take out a torch-lit procession and a rally in Guwahati on Saturday and Sunday to sharpen their protest the Indo-Bangla land swap deal.
Party leaders told Assam Times that they would not allow it to happened. A senior party leaders said, “the deal must be scrapped. But we are there to prevent the authorities from implementing the deal where Assam would not be a gainer.”
1-May-15: Another Assam Congress MLA arrested, sent to 7 days judicial custody
Assam Congress MLA and former minister in the Tarun Gogoi government Siddique Ahmed, who was reportedly absconding for the past few weeks in connection with an assault case of 2011, was arrested on Thursday by the Police in his hometown, Karimganj and was sent to seven days’ judicial custody. He is the second Congress MLA in Assam to be arrested within a fortnight.

A meeting of the Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress (APMC) was held on Thursday at Rajiv Bhawan here under the presidentship of Mridula Saharia, president of APMC.
It was also attended by the president of the All India Mahila Congress (AIMC), Shobha Oza, general secretary AIMC in-charge of Assam, Jarjum Ete, and secretary, AIMC Shehnaz Haque, amongst others.
Bismita Gogoi, Minister, Govt of Assam, Hema Prava Saikia, former State minister, and Pratima Devi Sarma, chairperson, Social Welfare Board, were also present in the meeting.
Bismita Gogoi, in her speech, said that the Congress members will have to work really hard for the Assembly election so as to give a tough fight to the BJP. She said that in order to win the mandate of the people in the next election, the Congress will have to reflect on its election strategy and give importance to social media and information technology. “It is important to highlight all the work done by the government for the people through social media. Only then the party will be able to reach out to the masses. Door-to-door campaign is also a must to regain the party’s position in the year 2016,” she stressed.

Guwahati: Launching the ‘oust Congress’ campaign in Assam, the BJP president Amit Shah on his maiden visit to the state on Sunday called upon the people to free the state of ‘Congress culture of corruption’ by installing BJP in power in Assembly election of 2016.
“The next Assam Assembly election is meant for freeing Assam of Bangladeshi infiltrators and insurgency, for facilitating all round development of Assam, for providing jobs to Assam’s youth and security to its women. So, vote for BJP to achieve these as well as to free Assam from the clutches of corrupt Congress,” the BJP president Amit Shah said addressing a mammoth rally here.

He said that the party has been able to mainstream itself in Assam. "People here want change and are looking forward to BJP. We will go alone."
Assam Congress MLA arrested in auto theft racket
Guwahati, April 14 (IANS) Congress legislator Rumi Nath was arrested on Tuesday for her alleged nexus with the notorious kingpin of auto thefts Anil Chauhan, police said. A senior official of the Guwahati Police Commissionerate confirmed and added that Nath was arrested for two cases - one registered with the Azara police station and the other registered with Dispur police station in the city. "She was arrested from her official residence in Dispur on Tuesday morning," the official added. Both the cases are related to her nexus with the kingpin of auto theft racket, police said. "She was arrested under non-bailable sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)," the official said.

Moderate polling reported in Bodoland Territorial Council elections
Peaceful polling is going on in 40 constituencies of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in four Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) today. Polling was held amidst security arrangements in the four districts of Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri districts following incidents of pre-poll violence in which one person was killed and six others injured in Kokrajhar on Monday last.The date of counting has been fixed on April 11 and repolling, if any, will be held on April 10.
