Delhi polls: Six Modi rallies in shock-and-awe Delhi campaign
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address six rallies in Delhi, covering all but one parliamentary constituency. Party sources said the rallies will put an end to the speculations that Modi will not be able to spare time for Delhi because of his packed schedule.
The state goes to polls on 7 February and according to report, the PM will have little time for rallies this time round. The report points out that the Delhi unit of the party had planned 12 rallies that would be addressed by the PM, but with Obama visiting from 25 to 27 January, and the PM's scheduled visit to UK from 29 January to 3 February, the party will get the PM to campaign for them only for a few days.
Apart from Modi, BJP has planned to unleash 48 of its star campaigners, including the party’s national president Amit Shah, Kiran Bedi, L K Advani, Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley and Harsh Vardhan, among others. Several BJP chief ministers and former filmstars such as Hema Malini and Vinod Khanna will also hold rallies, besides all of the party’s seven Delhi MPs.
“It’s a shock-and-awe strategy. As AAP candidate list is out, they have begun campaigning. Our list will be out on January 19. Once the candidates are announced, party will not leave a single place where BJP will not be visible,” said a senior BJP leader.
Shah also addressed a rally of 3000 Dalit voters last Friday and appealed to them to vote for his party in the coming Delhi assembly polls. "BJP always take an initiative for rights of poor people. I want your promise...ensure victory on all 12 reserved seats and put your effort to form the BJP government in Delhi," Shah said at the Dalit Sammelan at Talkatora Indoor Stadium in central Delhi.
For the BJP, the need to address workers is all the more crucial in light of recent developments in the party such as former IPS officer and former- team Anna member Kiran Bedi likely to be the BJP's Chief Ministerial candidate in the state.
