Kejriwal hands Election Commission a list of bogus voters

Alleging the presence of multiple voter cards in the name of one person in Delhi's electoral constituencies, the Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday approached the Election Commission, seeking that the discrepancies be removed.

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal held a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner V. S. Sampath and also met Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer Chandra Bhushan Kumar to apprise the officials of the issue. He handed over three CDs, which contain details about the multiple voter cards, to the poll body.

We found that some 3,96,914 voters have more than one card against their names totalling to 11,50,509 voter cards. We have compared the name, father's/ husband's name and age. These three fields match in all cases. Then we compared some photos randomly. We discovered that the photos are also matching in a number of cases. We are attaching such cases as examples. Therefore, we would treat these as suspected cases,” Kejriwal said in a letter to Delhi’s CEO.

The former Delhi chief minister alleged that details of many people in Delhi's list match with the names in Haryana’s and Uttar Pradesh’s lists.

We found 14,71,025 voters in Delhi's list, whose name, father's/ husband's name and age match with the names in Haryana's list. In case of Uttar Pradesh, we found 12,53,779 voters in Delhi's list. We all know that just before the election, people from the neighbouring states are brought to cast their votes,” he alleged.

The party demanded that the Commission should put the details of over 1.5 lakh people, who have registered as fresh voters, on its website for verification.

There are several cases of exclusion of people from the voter list. In all cases, either individual could be involved or any political party is messing up with the voter list,” Kejriwal said.

Suspecting foul play by the Booth Level Officers (BLOs), the former chief minister also demanded action against them.

"We have demanded strict and exemplary action against them", Kejriwal said, adding that the poll body has assured action against the erring officials.
