AAP volunteers to campaign for Shastri in Delhi Assembly polls

ALLAHABAD: With the campaigning for Delhi Assembly polls intensifying day by day and dates for the same to be announced shortly, around 100 active volunteers of Aam Admi Party (AAP) from Sangam city have rushed to the national capital to campaign for party candidates.

These volunteers have formed ten active campaigning groups (comprising 10 members each) who would be campaigning for AAP leader and grandson of late Prime Minister Lal Bhadur Shastri, Adarsh Shastri. Shastri has been declared AAP candidate from Dwarika assembly seat. Also Read: Delhi election Candidate List, Delhi Election Schedule, Delhi Opinion Poll

Shastri told TOI, "we have chalked out a fresh strategy to connect with voters and volunteers from Allahabad are helping me interact and spread the message of AAP among masses. Once the date of polling is announced by the election commission, around 150 more volunteers from Allahabad would come to Delhi for campaigning."

The active volunteers have been asked to conduct door-to-door campaign in areas falling under Dwarika assembly seat. Shastri, who had contested March 2014 parliamentary election from Allahabad city parliamentary seat, has already been campaigning in his assembly constituency and sought public blessings to register his triumph.

AAP leaders claimed that over 500 active members enrolled their registration at the Allahabad district central office in November and gave their consent to campaign for the party in Delhi Assembly elections. The active members submitted their details comprising names, phone numbers, and E-mail address with an objective to dispatch their name to the Delhi unit for elaborate campaigning plan.

Meanwhile, Shastri said, "active volunteers from Sangam city undoubtedly have diverse capabilities and experience to connect with voters and this was the prime reason behind engaging volunteers from the city". These groups would also be canvassing for other party candidates in congested areas and urban villages of selected assembly seats of Delhi as well.

AAP leaders claimed that extensive campaigning would surely bring them the desired results in polls. "We have adequate strength of party workers for campaigning in Delhi and in the same regard, we have started an exercise to depute active volunteers in different assembly seats to reach out to every voter before the polling," said a senior AAP leader.
