SAD forms panel for Delhi elections, will contest 4 seats

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) will contest from four constituencies in the Delhi Assembly elections. It will fight the elections as the BJP’s ally. “We will follow the old pattern. Two SAD candidates will contest on the BJP symbol and two on party’s own symbol,” said a senior Akali leader.

SAD president Sukhbir Badal has constituted a three-member committee that includes Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, GK Singh and Naresh Gujral. The panel will coordinate with the BJP regarding campaigning. The SAD has already started campaigning in the Sikh dominated constituencies. Also Read: Delhi  candidate List,  Delhi Election Schedule Delhi Opinion poll

Ramoowalia said Sukhbir had told all party leaders to establish contact with voters on a one-to-one basis. The BJP has already instructed all of its MPs to address three to four rallies each. The BJP has planned 1,200 election rallies across Delhi.

Three SAD candidates - Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Hameet Singh Kalka and Jatinder Singh Shunty - had won the Delhi Assembly election last time. Sirsa contested from Rajori Garden, Shunty Shahdra and Harmeet Kalkaji.

The BJP-SAD combine will be pitted against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal. AAP will also seek support from its activists in Punjab where it won four Lok Sabha seats in 2014. Bhagwant Mann, AAP MP from Sangrur, has already started campaigning in New Delhi.
